World Suicide Prevention Month 2026: Start the Conversation

As part of World Suicide Prevention Month 2026, we had the privilege of conducting an awareness workshop at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, University of Delhi, focused on mental health, emotional well-being, suicide prevention, and the importance of meaningful human connection.

The workshop created a safe and open space for students to talk about mental health without fear of judgment. We discussed how stress, anxiety, loneliness, emotional pain, academic pressure, relationship challenges, and feelings of hopelessness can affect individuals at different stages of life. The session emphasized that experiencing emotional difficulties does not make someone weak, and seeking help is a sign of courage and self-awareness.

One of the most important parts of the workshop was understanding warning signs. Changes in behaviour, withdrawing from friends and activities, persistent sadness, hopelessness, or repeatedly expressing feelings of being trapped or alone should never be ignored. Early support and genuine human connection can make a meaningful difference.

We also explored how each of us can contribute by noticing, listening without judgment, encouraging professional support, and staying connected with people who may be struggling.

The workshop reflected this year’s important theme: “Changing the Narrative on Suicide – Start the Conversation.” Sometimes, a simple conversation can become the first step toward hope.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, University of Delhi, for providing us with the opportunity to engage with students and contribute to such an important conversation.

Mental health awareness is not limited to one month. It is a responsibility we carry throughout the year.

Let’s speak openly. Let’s listen compassionately. Let’s support one another.

You are valuable. You are not alone. Every life matters.
